ARTIST NOTES: Based on a recent visit to the Mac Kenzie Falls at the Grampians I wanted to capture the light and energy of the area. Using predominately the palette knife I pursued the challenge of representing the river, steep hill speckled with rocks and vegetation in an impressionistic dynamic use of colour and texture.

ARTIST BIO

Peter Schmidli was born in Melbourne Australia. After graduating from Swinburne with a BA in Design in 1989, Peter worked as a freelance illustrator/ designer before teaching Art and Design over the last 35 years. During this time he explored a diverse range of media and techniques in his own art practice, investigating the potential of his artwork and a range of themes ranging portraiture, landscape, wildlife and abstract artwork.

Peter has experimented in the field of landscape, exploring light, texture, and the aesthetic of the Australian environment.  These often-surreal imagery conveys humanity’s relationship with the natural environment and the transient nature and impact of that interaction. Recently he has celebrated the natural world through his detailed studies of wildlife.

Peter is diverse in his use of techniques choosing approaches that help convey his artistic intentions. These range from impressionistic techniques to evoke energetic and mysteriously atmospheric scenes in acrylic paint to realistic Oil Paint studies.
